The flat terrain of the coast has spoiled me. The steepest inclines in Morehead City are the bridges going to the island. So needless to say the never ending slopes of the Blue Ridge Parkway proved a worthy adversary. After 15 miles, much of that spent in the granny gear, I was very tempted to thumb a ride back to my car. But I sucked it up and made a 30 mile out and back ride with beautiful views. The drivers here are awesome about not pushing cyclists and give a wide berth when passing. I'd love to do this area again after I've boned up on my hill climbing.
