Bob:

Most of the time a hub tighten is an easy fix. Remove the wheel, take the skewer out then take the end caps of the hub and make sure they are screwed in all the way. Sometimes they work themselves loose.

Cycling mechanics...What are the consequences of riding with a rear hub that has some play in it? During cleanup from today's ride, I noticed a wiggle in the rear wheel. Either the cassette is loose or the hub is loose. Could the wiggle cause the rear brake to drag?

BTW Jim...I've changed to a different rear wheel and still plan on doing the metric tomorrow.

Large group too many to name, including some from out of town.
19 riders set out on the century. Deceiving tailwind led to a scorching pace of 22/24 to start. Split into two groups with the BC taking the more sane approach. Little Wally lived up to her name, staying in the lead group 3rd or 4 th wheel all day with very strong pulls. I skipped the second sag stop , couldn't wait for the head wind on the 8 mile false flat to Kenly, really hoping the lead group would catch up and I would have company. They didn't make the catch until Radford Rd. COWS gave a good account of themselves, little Wally leads out on target hill, gave over to Vino and them me, mtn Dan took the summit as best my lactic acid infused mind can remember. Vino, Little Wally, mtn Dan, and I with honorary COWS Kinnie and mtnDan's brother along with Kinnie's Rocky Mt friends all finish as a group.
Total riders for both rides, around 30 plus, largest group in years.
Pizza and subs at the finish.
Cotton Century tomorrow in Greenville.
All in all a great ride, cloudy and no rain.
