I wanted to say a big thanks to Lee Eatmon, David Wilhelm, Mr. T, Tim Lucas,
David for allowing me to ride with them today. They were very patient the
entire day. I learned a lot. Still have some work to do but it was a lot of
fun. Look forward to my next ride.

WILSON: Another herd gathered at DD for the 1:00 edition of the Saturday ride.
Jim, Bob, Wally, Dale and LR rolled out of town on Nash St under cloudy skies,
just a little wind and temps in the upper 50’s. Saturday afternoon traffic on
Nash St. made getting on to Nash St interesting. As the group approached the
Airport/Lake Wilson intersection we spotted two riders from the pool ride
headed in. Just bit farther down the road and on the other side was Tim L
astride his Ridley waiting for us at the Mobile Station. With Tim joining up
for his second spin of the day, the group totaled 6 and rolled on out Nash
Street, turning left onto Hornes Church Rd. Over 95, across Old Bailey Hwy.
then turning left onto Strickland Rd. the group rolled at a steady tempo.
After a stop at the Kwick Pic at the intersection with Lilies Rd, the peloton
rolled on and encountered the first sprinkles of the ride. The cloud cover had
also thickened by this time and the temps in turn dropped a few degrees. At
581 the group turned left continuing through Bailey on 581 all the way to Old
Raleigh Rd. Turning left on Old Raleigh Rd the group rolled over the three
sisters. A left on to Airport Rd. set up the obvious conclusion to the days
ride. Wally (can we just call him Diesel?) had already put some big pulls.
Dale too had done some strong work on the front along with Tim, Jim and Bob, LR
was hanging on to whoever’s wheel he could catch. All these strong turns on
the front were just the warm up for the charge up Target Hill. The set up
formed slowly, no one made a move until the climb had actually begun. Wally,
having just finished a long pull on Old Raleigh snuck around the outside and
was moving up when the festivities kicked off. It was nothing short of an all
out, go for broke effort. In the end, Tim L. managed to take the polka dot
jersey today. With the sprinkles becoming a bit more steady the ride broke up
on Airport and there was no post ride analysis or podiums today. 33 miles at a
19+ avg. Strong tempo ride today.

After some discussion among the ride committee, it unanimously agreed that
todays ride was not cold enough and lacked enough precipitation and wind to
qualify even as “Belgian lite”. It was all the same, a great ride and a good
group.

Oh yeah, we finished up with 33 miles and just a couple drops of rain.

I met up with the "pool" guys at 11:00am this morning. Lee, Dave W., Mr. T,
Dan D. & Chris B. with one killer looking bike! We cruised out Packhouse,
through the industrial center, Old Raleigh, St. Rose to Lucama, then Blalock,
Lely, Hunt High School and finished off with Target Hill. I very much enjoyed
riding with these guys. Chris did a great job being it only his second ride.
Come Spring he'll be another force to deal with. Sorry for bailing at the end,
as I was trying to hook up with the second group. It was a great ride. The
CoWs keep expanding. Awesome!
