As for keeping feet warm. Biggest concern is keeping your mid-section warm. If your body temp lowers, your brain will constrict the blood flow to your arms and legs. Your brain will ditch your hands and feet to keep your organs warm and prolong your survival. I had on like 6 layers of stuff, including some wool. Second, I now have water proof shoes 2 sizes too big. Room for thick wool socks and one of those chemical heaters taped to the top of my toes. Below freezing I'll use a plastic bag as another sock layer. Adding any of this to shoes that already fit snug will worsen the problem as it'll restrict the blood flow.
