Decided to modify my last ride a bit and avoid the Emerald Isle bridge.
Mission accomplished. I left the house this morning at 6:50. Rode to the AB
bridge and over. No problems with very little traffic. Rode to the end of
Emerald Isle to the base of the bridge. 23 miles with a 20 mph average. Not
bad considering that it felt like the wind was slightly against me most of the
way but not too bad. However, when I turned around and rode back, well, let's
just say that it wasn't blowing out of the west like I had hoped it would be.
Rode back to the very end of the island to fort macon. Very pretty coming
around the corner and over looking Beaufort Inlet. Very nice. Turned around
at fort macon and came back to the AB Bridge. By then, the wind was blowing
hard out of the north. Going back over the bridge was much harder than earlier
in the morning. Slow to the top but I made it. Cross over hwy 70 to Bridges
Street and then to home. Total ride was 54 miles. Avg. speed was 18.6.
