This is a ride for which I designed the routes. Four years ago, I liked to climb a lot and put most of the challenging local climbs into the metric. Today, I suffered for those decisions. My brother and I joined up with a couple of buddies from the old riding group and hung together for most of the route. As with most of these charity rides, the start was much quicker than it should have been. We decided to back off the pace after our first stop in order to survive the climbing that was still ahead of us. A great time was had by all and we finished 64.29 miles with a 17.8 mph average. Total climbing was 3504 ft with much of it short (0.5 miles or less) but steep (5+%). OK, it was no BSG or Seattle, but it was a lot of climbing for a converted flatlander. If anyone is looking for a fun, challenging ride far away from Wilson, this is a great one.
