I have aero bars on my road bike and agree with Ronnie only use when riding 
solo or pulling at the front.  I have never experienced any discomfort with 
them in fact the opposite quite comfortable and a good break for the hands. It 
might be my set up in the aero bars I have the 90 degree bend at the hips with 
spine parallel to the top tube.  I use profile bars.
