Tim, Great news about the new door opening for a 24 hour time trial. I will
be glad to drive you to Little Washington to help save your energy for the
trial run. My one problem is I'm scheduled for eye surgery on Sept 27,
otherwise, the day before or two days after then I will be avaliable.

  Thanks pals!

They say when one door closes, another one opens. That may have been true
for me after yesterday's ride. There are two organizations in the US for
endurance cycling. I picked RUSA because they were more active in North
Carolina. The other is the Ultra Marathon Cycling Assoc. They have some
strong members in NC including a few of my RUSA pals. I was in Lumberton
earlier this year when Maria Parker was setting a new World Record for the
women's 12 hour time trial. Well, I drove to Sunset Beach yesterday to get my
drop bag and to carry some supplies to the control. Maria was the control
official there. We chat for a while as we both have time to kill. I told her
my interest in doing a 24 hour time trial in Sebring Florida one day. She then
happily informed me that I didn't have to go all the way to Florida that NC was
getting it's first official RAAM qualifying 24 hour cycling time trial in just
3 weeks in Little Washington. I just had the perfect practice run on a 24 hour
event. If I had finished the 1200k, I would not have recovered in time to do
this, but now the light bulb is going off. It will also settle those voices in
my head. Don't tell Susan.

They also have a 12 hour time trial, a 100 mile race and a 100 mile
non-competitive ride, in case anyone is interested!

  Expanding my horizons! Maybe!

    Tim,

I agree with Jeff. You're still da man in my eyes. If I'd been riding
like you have, I would have been burned out long ago. Not feeling good from a
summer cold can put a damper on the fun factor. Hey, don't despair, ignore the
voices. Right now I can't imagine anything more fun than riding and sprinting
with the local dudes?

I knew one day I was gonna bite off more than I could chew and so it

late into the ride Wednesday night. Multiple causes for my demise like still
getting over a summer cold, but the main culprit was showing up still 20 to 25
lbs overweight to a ride with this much climbing involved on day one. I was
the heftiest dude on the starting line. My cheeseburger, beer and ice cream
plan failed me! The worst part is that I still could have finished this ride
but the fun factor was gone and my heart wasn't in the game anymore so I choose
to bail. Now I live with the voices in my head.
