The morning started out very early.  The air temp was cool but warmer then
expected.  Arrived at Jordan Lake at 5:45 and learned that it was going to be
wetsuit legal (yes that mad my day) Not sure how the water temp was 75 degrees
but Jason at FS Series must have found the right spot. Swim started just a
little after 7:00.  I felt great on the swim and tried to hold back just a
little because I knew it was going to be a long morning.  Coming out of the
water I look down at my watch to see 21 min…I thought I was seeing things.
(21:48 was the official time) It was at that point I knew the swim course was
short or either this wetsuit had a motor on it. Either way it made me feel
good.  T1 was slow, but I wanted to take my time and be sure not to forget
anything and catch my breath.  I figured I could make the time up on the bike
anyway.  Off to the bike course.  At the race briefing Jason explained that the
bike course was a little challenging.
The first 40 miles had its rollers, but there were also some really fast
sections.    The last 16 miles would be very hilly and to be sure to save your
legs.  Wow was he right.  The first 40 were fast and the last part was very
challenging (and head wind).  I even had to drop to my small ring on 3
hills…..(I was having flash backs of the last mountain ride I did) I did drop a
bottle along the way that had G2 in it so I was not happy about that. There
were a few really bad sets of bad RR tracks and that must be where I lost it.
In on the bike in 2:37:12.  Now the fun (or torture for me) begins. The damn
run……  I got all my gear and I’m off.  I quickly notice that I had dropped my
salt tablets and I can already feel my quads starting to cramp.  So after a few
bad words I just keep going.  At the first water station I got some coke and
water and that seemed to help.  Linda was there to support me and during my
ride she said she was
going to go for a run.  On my way out on the run she comes up behind and runs
a little while with me.  At this point she had run like 14 of her planned 19
mile run.  Not sure how friendly I was to her since I was already really tired,
but it was nice to have the company.  lol  The first loop was not so bad. The
run course was a little hilly and yes I did walk more then I had planned.  The
second loop was tough…..but I was able to pull it all together and get to the
end.
5:06:29/2nd in age group/17 overall/only barfed twice after I was done/still
wondering why I do this to my body
