First...Brian...the elevation gain is the feet that you climbed during your
ride as measured by the Garmin. Conversely, the elevation loss is the downhill
component of your ride. A 10 foot “hill” along an otherwise flat road will
likely count as 10 feet of gain and 10 feet of loss. In general, a route that
starts and ends at the same point will have almost the same gain and loss.

I also did a ride this afternoon. The weather was fantastic, but the wind was
definitely strong. My goal was a pleasure ride instead of a training ride. I
did 32.8 miles at 17.7 mph average: Corbett/Lake Wilson/through Elm City to
Steeplechase at 301/back around the airport/97/Bend of the River/Tar River
Church-Cliftonville/58/around the country club/home via Tilghman. As Jim says,
a great day on the bike.

Marian and I went out for a 22mi ride and managed to keep a 18.5 average
considering some strong head-winds and gusts.

Quick question for the experts … what does Elevation Gain/Loss mean? How does
it equate? How can I use this data?

Here is the ride report: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/232628714

Thanks in advance and Happy Friday!
