As pointed out in http://www.openldap.org/lists/openldap-bugs/199907/msg00021.html the basic problem is that configure builds a program that calls res_query without including resolv.h as it should. Some googling led to another approach (grep for res_query) http://cvs.gnupg.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/gnupg/configure.ac?rev=1.73 Does linux use a recent bind adding underscores (grep res_query resolv.h)? Does OpenSSH's configure behave OK there?
