Frankly, I don't mind the twiddly-cycle controls, and this has little to
do with intuitiveness.  The way I see it, there are two parts of setup
involved in this: the logic that lists the available versions (independent
of the GUI, mostly), and the actual control that cycles through those
versions.  Yes, with drop-down boxes one will see the whole list of
available choices at once, but if the logic is unchanged, the drop-down
list will also contain the wrong set of items.
