I don't know about imlib but glib-1.2.10 and gtk+-1.2.10 compile OOTB. I built them to create a gvim locally. There was just one problem in glib/gstrfuncs.c. There's an extern declaration for strsignal() which collides with a Cygwin header. Just add a #ifndef __CYGWIN__ to the extern declaration and you're done.
