Dear Harold, the event PropertyNotify with event.xproperty.atom == XA_CUT_BUFFER is the solution (hopefully) ... give it a try! I could not find anything about X11 selection change detection as for MS-windows, but I have been using the event above to detect changes and at least for the applications (xterm/xemacs) I am using it seems to work well!
