XWIN to SuSE 9 no longer works on Sony PCG-GRT laptop

We have multiply installs of Red Hat ES and Suse 9.  Both have been set up
correctly for XFree86 and work using xwin.exe -query on all machines except
my new Sony PCG-GRT laptop.

I can successfully connect to Red Hat servers, but get a grey screen when
attempting to connect to SuSE 9 servers (although others can using
different machines).
