Do you have .xinitrc in your home directory?
Hey it's true! I found that I don't have an .xinitrc in home dir!!!! > do you still get the cat started when doing > >xinit /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc -- /usr/X11R6/bin/XWin -multiwindow -clipboard cat don't start. I get the same output as first tests (plain 'startx')
