Thanks. I could not find that in XWin man pages, but XWin -help showed it.
Though $DISPLAY is ineffectual to XWin, I needed to set it since wmaker (or any xdm) would need to know the display/screen to use. I am a happy clam now. I use wmaker because I don't like using multiwindow mode. I am not good in dealing with disorganised clutter.
