(oops) only root wants to run xdm

It seems I had the flu-vanishes-as-soon-as-you-step-at-the-doctor s effect :
after weeks of failing to start xdm, I could start it just after I posted my question 
to the list.
The solution is simply to change the uid in the password file to zero. I ve done it 
for my own account but of course it would be wiser to do it with the Administartor 
account only. I m now trying to make a working configuration.
