AltGr key.

Hello,

After much struggle, I could now get things to work with xmodmap.de.  So, 
things are fine with the German keyboard after starting the X-Server. 
 However, in bash the AltGr key is still not recognised.  That is, I cannot 
type ~ and | which one often needs.

Is this the case with Alexander and others who have a German keyboard?  If 
not, what is the solution?
