The problem here is that Cygwin/XFree86 sees the Alt and Ctrl presses, but
it never sees the releases.  Upon returning to the server, press and release
the Alt key and the Ctrl key once; that sends a signal to the server that
the keys have been released, and generally returns your keyboard operation
to normal.
