fontconfig.sh exit code 210

Even when there is nothing to update/ install, setup.exe is taking ages 
to process the script
  /etc/postinstall/fontconfig.sh
and eventually closes with the error message
  Package: unknown package
  fontconfig.sh exit code 210
(Nothing useful from /var/log/setup.log other than the same message.)
