The computer name that hostname(1) returns is the one the Win32 API returns. I'm not sure if this can be looked upon as a bug as cygwin gets the computer-name from win32 syscalls and hostname(1) gets the name from cygwin... Are you sure your computer name isn't set in capitals? Are you using a dns suffix?
