http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin-cvs/2007-q1/msg00111.html The difference is simply that /proc and /cygdrive are plumbed differently, e.g. /cygdrive is kind of a virtual mount entry and its name can be changed, whereas /proc is fixed and compiled in.
