"Cygnus Systems http://www.cygnus-sys.com/ has initiated a patent infringement law suit with Niro, Scavone, Haller & Niro Partners against Microsoft, Google, and Apple Inc. Cygnus is also a Microsoft Certified Gold Partner. Cygnus Systems claims it has a patent (US Patent 7346850 - System and method for iconic software environment management, applied in 2001, issued March 18, 2008) on the way simplified preview snapshots of different file types appear prior to being fully opened by the user. The company says this exact feature appears in Windows Vista, Mac OSX, Google Chrome, the iPhone, among other applications. The exact amount of the suit was not fully disclosed. The patent details can be found here." Cygnus Systems, Inc. 25650 Goddard Road Taylor, MI 48180 USA Has this anything remotely to do with us? I only know of the former company "Cygnus Solutions" (before called "Cygnus Support") but the merger with Redhat was already early 2000. The abbrevation in the cited article might affect us. http://oreilly.com/catalog/opensources/book/tiemans.html about the cygnus history is a nice read, btw, -- Reini Urban http://phpwiki.org/ http://murbreak.at/ -- Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/
