`We can be afraid, or we can be ready.'' ---Tom "Caesar" Ridge, Fatherland
Security Buffoon

---

Reminiscent of the duck-and-cover campaigns of the Cold War,
the Homeland Security effort will include television
announcements and fliers that will be distributed with phone
directories.

The television spots will feature Ridge, along with a New York
City firefighter and other public safety workers.

The Ad Council - the nonprofit group that came up with Smokey
Bear's ``Only you can prevent forest fires'' and McGruff the
crime dog's ``Take a bite out of crime'' - helped put together the
campaign.

The ads don't seem to have a single catch phrase, although most
of them include the words, ``Be ready.''

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - School officials ordered a 16-year-old
student to either take off a T-shirt emblazoned with the words
``International Terrorist'' and a picture of President Bush or go
home, saying they worried it would inflame passions at the
school where a majority of students are Arab-American.

The student, Bretton Barber, chose to go home. He said he
wore the shirt Monday to express his anti-war position and for a
class assignment in which he wrote a compare-contrast essay
on Bush and Iraq President Saddam Hussein.

Schools spokesman Dave Mustonen said students have the
right to freedom of expression, but educators are sensitive to
tensions caused by the conflict with Iraq.
