Hey, I just noticed that there are a lot of patents on cryptographic techniques. Yes, I am naive. These patents are getting in the way of possible projects; I will consider a system and then discover it is patented. Is there a list of crypto patents lying around broken down by primitive or protocol type? alternatively, is there a list of "best of breed" protocols which are not patented? Patents for RSA and Chaum blind signatures are common knowledge :). What I'm more interested in is a resource which would have told me that Bellare and Rogaway's PSS scheme is patent-pending, but that their DHAES proposal for the IEEE standard is _not_. (just to take an example) If there is no such resource, anyone feel like listing their favorite protocols as fodder for an IBM patent search? Thanks, -David Molnar P.S. Many thanks to everyone for the wealth of information on banking malice! At some point I'll have to put up a page on it or something...
