Some friends of mine on windows set it up in minutes (they are not particularly techie). It also depends on what client you use I guess. I tested utox on a windows xp machine and it only took a few clicks to install. But having no off-line messaging does impair usability. Not being able to 'add' people unless they are online is...akward.
