This is how the new OSX fs (APFS - Apple File System) is supposed to handle 
secure erasure of file system, precisely as you’ve described. 

I don’t know if APFS will be shipped with Mac OS Sierra (10.12) or not… was 
sorry to hear they dropped ZFS, although APFS looks interesting.
