A few years ago, while I was still a tool of the
military-industrial complex, I had to fill out a security clearance form.
In addition to all the usual addresses, places I'd worked,
organizations I'd belonged to, particularly Commie or subversive, etc.,
it wanted to know race. Identified by color.
So rather than lots of picky distinctions between Hispanics that
the Census and La Migra want, they all got lumped into "brown",
and Asians into "yellow" (don't remember if Indian Asians got to be
yellow or brown or white; Native Americans were "red", of course,
even though some Indian writers have pointed out that it's the
Europeans who turn red-neck, while Indians stay brown.)

It was really tacky. I tried to convince them that "Green"
was the right color, though more of my ancestors were politically Orange. :-)
They crossed it out and put "white"....
                                Thanks!
