The Latest Revelation of Legislative/DMV Insult to SC Citizens >From the "State"/ Assoc. Press - March 21, 1999 The state Public Safety Department sold children's images to the New Hampshire company that also bought 3.5 million South Carolina driver's license photos. The pictures and information came from state identification cards which are issued to children as young as 10. Image Data LLC of Nashua, N. H., received the information along with the first 3.5 million images and Social Security numbers it bought, department official said. "This will open up a whole new area to investigate," Attorney General Charlie Condon said. "We should be protecting our children, not exploiting them." ("Neal" this is the bit I liked here, he's calling this action "EXPLOITING" but when it comes to us adults it's called safety and in the public interest) After a public outcry when news of the sale broke, Condon sued to get out of the contract. A Circuit Court judge has not ruled on that yet. Image Data's system briefly shows merchants the picture of a credit card holder or check writer as a fraud deterrent. Although Image Data is trying to delete information of those younger than 14, it will keep and use data on those 14 and older, spokeswoman Lorna Christie said. "A lot of young consumers make financial transactions that require identity verification," she said. ****************************************** Hang the Legislature, the DMV and Charlie! ATG: The sins of omission are about to haunt the pack of Lying bureaucrats and politicians, not only did this money grubbing good ole' boy club sell our drivers license information they also gave away our kids information. There are only 2,624,097 licensed drivers in SC (SC Statistics 1998), the other 1 million are our children's ID's, upon which is name, photo, ssn number, school information, personal information, suspensions, grades, all bar-coded information which will now be posted to the world. Where was AG Condon when the legislature passed the act allowing sale of our personal information for commercial purposes/ money when the Constitution was ignored? This happened before the Condon v US suit, did it not? The legislatively appointed judge who has ruled the information can be sold quite apparently does not understand contract law, Has anyone reading this page ever been notified or seen the optout form at ANY DMV office? ATG volunteers have never seen it or have found one. The only one available is the newly revised optout form mentioning Image Data, only. Has anyone reading this page ever given the DMV or the legislature a signed Power of Attorney giving them permission to sell their private property? I don't think so! So how can a contract be signed by SC selling the property of a "third party" or better yet - - that of 3.5 million adults and children of SC ? The legislature and the DMV/Dept of Public Safety has now aided and abetted the Congress in its zeal to put in place the National Identity Card, and thereby added our children to the "virtual mug-shot database". Every parent with a child in school required to wear those cards should DEMAND that they expunge this so-called database immediately! This is the ultimate outrage. Image Data removing bits and pieces of this pirated database is a joke. We have NO guarantee the information is not privy to the Congress or its partners in crime. The truth has been withheld from the outset of this farce and still is. The FRAUD continues, but not by citizens of SC. The Ways and Means Committee, headed by Rep. Henry Brown, has funded the continuation of these sales. This happened on the same day citizens were trying to speak out against this action. 85,000 optout forms have been processed (so the DMV says). That is what your elected representatives think of your privacy and your "children". [ How many times a day do we hear the money mating call of the GA..."it's for the children" - "children" - etc.] And this is how they protect the "children"? And since when do 10-14 year old students get credit cards or even have the option to opt out? There is only one solution to this mess which was condoned by the legislature and the DMV, greedy for more money, total disregard for our SC Constitution privacy clause, and that is that all SC information be expunged completely from Image Data computer databases It is time for every citizen/parent in South Carolina to protest this latest outrage.
