  1. Important Note to Mac OS Conduit Developers

Apple Computer, Inc. has released the Mac OS System Update v9.0.4 for use
with Mac OS 9 operating system. Among other changes, the USB
system software has been updated (USB System Software 1.41), which has
affected the operation of the Palm HotSync(R) Manager software.

During synchronization, the connection between the handheld and the
desktop times out and a connection timeout error message appears on
the handheld. This occurs for conduits that require long intervals
(typically greater than 7 seconds) between transactions with the device.

Presently, the problem occurs in all versions of HotSync Manager on Mac
OS.

Palm, Inc. is currently investigating what can be done in future versions
of HotSync Manager to avoid this problem. As a temporary workaround,
conduit developers can ensure that either SyncYieldCycles() or the
conduit 'Progress Function' (one of the parameters passed to
OpenConduit) is called periodically during any extended wait or extended
processing activities inside the conduit. The SyncYieldCycles() function
provides a tickle packet to the device to avoid timeout. For any updates
to this information, please refer to Knowledge Base article #1814.

  2. New Web Clipping Proxy Servers On-line

The latest release of the web clipping proxy server has been installed in
the production and content-dev systems. It addresses the following
issues:

1) The media-type, "Charset=..." in the HTTP Content-type header. This
issue has been addressed by having the charset media-type passed without
error, although it does not mean that character sets other than the
currently supported ISO Latin 1 character set will be rendered properly
on the device.
2) Clippings with forms having OPTION tags with the VALUE attribute set
are now properly supported and should not cause the C2010005 error.
3) Leading white space preceding the HTML code is now supported.

Please continue to notify us, via the PQA Developer Forum, direct e-mail,
or submitting a technical question to Palm DTS from our web site (see the
questions page at http://www.palmos.com/dev/tech/support/questions.html).

  3. New Web Clipping and INetLib API FAQs to be Available Later This
Month

More than 15 new FAQs on web clipping and the INetLib API have been
created and will be posted in the Developer Knowledge Base later this
month. Currently you can find over 18 FAQs on web clipping, including
sample code for using the INetLib API. See the Developer Knowledge Base
on our web site at http://oasis.palm.com/dev/kb/ for these FAQs and
others covering development for the Palm OS(R) Platform.

  4. Exciting New Update to the Solution Provider Program

To learn more about the solutions and services provided by our
developers, we are making some very exciting new changes to the Solution
Provider Program.

We have created a new profile that will focus on applications,
peripherals, accessories, and custom consulting provided by our Solution
Provider members. We have updated our profile to get better information
to support your development and marketing efforts. In addition, all of
these great solutions and services will soon be available to customers in
the upcoming Palm OS Services and Solutions Guide located on PalmOS.com.
This new guide will allow customers to find information about your
services and solutions and give you much more exposure in the Palm
economy. Watch for upcoming information on http://www.palmos.com about
the launch of the guide.

When the new Solution Provider Profile is posted, the first time you log
into the Provider Pavilion, you will be asked to update your existing
Solution Provider Profile. This will give you an opportunity to update
any information, which may have changed since you originally submitted
your Profile. The information you will be asked to provide is based on
the developer category entered on your original profile. Upon submitting
an updated profile, you will receive a new confirmation, which will also
provide you with a new username, which will now be the email address for
the primary contact of the profile. The password, though it will
currently remain the same, will be modified, so in the future you can
select a new unique password.
