He read through all the nonsense of the Talmud and extracted its behavioral rules into the Mishneh Torah, including the one that said if a Jew could save a drowning Christian, he should just let him drown instead. But where did Maimonides stand on the Black Lives Matter question? According to Maimonides, Black Lives Didn’t Matter Very Much. In his supposed masterwork, A Guide for the Perplexed, the great man said this: Those who are incapable of attaining to supreme religious values include the black colored people and those who resemble them in their climates. Their nature is like the mute animals. Their level among existing things is below that of a man and above that of a monkey. Here’s another translation of the same passage.
