I recently experienced extreme trauma from being confronted with ideas that went against my own professed belief system. Someone recommended the CypherPunks list to me as a Safe Place to relax in my own skin and not feel threatened by strange, new ideas. It was nice of the person to suggest this would help me recover from my trauma, since, in the past, that person has just been a mean wise-guy toward me.
