there is only support for one radio and one network interface. past mesh 
networking experience has shown the value of multiple radios, in particular 
combining some long range directional with close range isotropic broadcast. in 
turn, this means more complicated routing protocols - but significantly better 
performance!

this inherently inflexible design reminds of the OLPC mesh capabilities... 
which rapidly dropped to unusable with modest distance or interference.
