I have this jerry-rigged enough to have satisfaction for a bit now, by stashing the factory rom off a factory chip and repurposing it.
I had a factory chip that wasn't working for me, and after my experience examining things, I noticed one of the leads had slightly bent and was in danger of shorting when not used carefully. I bent it back and am curious if the other board on which I thought the socket was broken, might work again. I also have some little experience now resoldering these, if I do end up replacing that socket.
