kinda frustrating to have my memory of what happened be different from what is happening now, when i'm not aware of having changed anything
now that i think about it, i did change something: i installed a debugging version of libgit2. I figured this wouldn't matter, since i didn't relink process2, but since it is a shared library, the new code must be being loaded rather than the old.
