looks like my system has a partial install it wants to resolve, and needs me to specify my dependency tree manually if i'm going to keep it unresolved.
the packages for adb on ubuntu are: adb android-libadb android-libboringssl android-libcrypto-utils android-sdk-platform-tools-common
