the end result of that behavior is that the set of things that humans consider "necessary to have" keeps on growing and displacing everyone else.
it gets "humorous" when this includes slavery, because you can't actually give everyone slaves. some people are the slaves. unfortunately, given the way our economy is functioning at large scale, we basically have that situation now, just indirectly.
