as the kind of person i was, i really don't know most things. it's
actually common for hackertypes to prefer to figure things out than to
memorize them. this ensures the information they work on relates to
what is both real and relevant, and usually gives them a significant
advantage compared to people who instead assume something they learned
applies to a specific situation
