The U.S. Supreme Court should narrowly interpret the federal statute
barring people from using false statements to influence certain financial
institutions because backing the government's broad reading could expose
borrowers to criminal liability that was never intended, former Chicago
alderman Patrick Daley Thompson argued Wednesday.
