The sheeple can be shown arguments they understand, like: if you were
<evil entity>, wouldn't you be motivated to <insert privacy affront here>.
This can alert them.  

Consider 'identity theft'.  Convince them with tragic stories of folks
losing control of their meatspace reputation [1] and they'll buy shredders.

[1] and the economic benefits to the fraudster, thereby providing
*motivation*.
