Actually, I bungled my ACLU resignation. I faxed my letter to Ira Glasser. The
only response I got back was from Marge Heins -- a very friendly and reasonable
response, as I recall. I'd assumed that Glasser had shared the letter with her.
But nothing more happened. I continued to receive all publications, and at
renewal time I got my usual notice to renew.
Finally, it occurred to me to check my fax log from the period, which was
indeed October 1997. I saw that I had faxed the letter to the wrong fax number
-- to Marge Heins, not Glasser. Heins, of course, just assumed I was ccing her.
Thus she was the only one ever to see the letter and no action was taken. At
some point I removed the link to my resignation letter, but didn't bother to
remove the letter itself from my web site.
In May of 1998, partly as a result of discussion with a number of ACLUM members
whom I greatly respect, I renewed my ACLU membership. Last year, however, due
to a severe financial crunch, I dropped my memberships in almost everything,
ACLU included. When I recover a bit, I will decide what to rejoin.
I mirrored the NAMBLA site for a short time in October of 1997, but then NAMBLA
got a provider. This is the provider that just dropped them because of the
lawsuit.
