That's why all the mixmastering/onioning/freenet systems use multiple
servers.  Their protocols can defend against N of M hostile nodes.
That seems to be the only solution when you can't centralize trust.
The cost is increased bandwidth and (for some systems) decreased reliability.

How long do commercial ISPs keep records of activity?  I suppose 
call setup/drop info is sparse, they could keep it all, like telcos.
Recording every TCP session would be too much, without a specific target, no?
(Or is this wishful thinking?)
