I'm not saying sniffing all the traffic might not help, I'm saying
that IF the warrant is against a specific party, and they have no
specific party (or even a specific address), then clearly they will
get nothing.
But of course the point is that they _won't_ be limiting themselves
to tapping just a single address covered by a court order.
This was my point. There own rationale for Carnivore tells the story.
They wish to be a mini-NSA.
BTW, expect nothing better from the Reps when they come to power. I
wouldn't be surprised if they didn't simply cut to the chase and set
up a unified TLA spy system, combining the NSA and CIA (and perhaps
DIA, ONI, NRO, etc.) and tightening ties to the FBI.
Why reinvent the wheel with Carnivore installed inside cages at AOL
and Earthlink when the other agencies are adept at much wider
sniffing?
