When you remove the core it is no longer a sphere, it may fit inside a
sphere but the object itself is NOT a sphere. It's a toroid/donut if the
core goes all the way through. I'm not aware of a specific name for a
partial coring.

You can't take a sheet w/o a hole and a sheet w/ a hole and convert them.
They are topologically different objects.
