A MAN who threatened to blow up the White House and cut off the heads of
two US presidents has been sentenced to more than 19 years in prison.
Eric James Temple, 25, apologised, saying he had "tried to always better my
life, but it always comes to a failure".
He asked US District Judge John Steele to send him to prison because he had
no family and no home.
The Florida court heard Temple had mailed numerous letters to federal
officials since first threatening to kill President George W. Bush, former
President Bill Clinton and three federal prosecutors.
"When I come for each of you individually, I'm going to cut your heads off,
rip your eyes out and cook your bodies for a holiday meal," Temple wrote in
one letter to a prosecutor last October.
He also threatened to blow up the White House with a nuclear bomb.
Temple pleaded guilty in June 2001 to making threats against the presidents
and the prosecutors and mailing threatening communications.
He was serving four years in jail for battery on a law enforcement officer
when he began mailing the letters in January 2001. A Quiet American
