I'm curious what you mean by 'weak'. DES is DES. If
it encrypts and decrypts correctly, it is as cryptographically
'strong' as any other DES implementation. I've worked with
Phil Karn's code, and it is correct.

Single DES in general is now deprecated, because of the
short key length.
