The recent sentencing of 23-year-old animal rights activist Andy Stepanian
marks the latest attack on Long Island's progressive community. While Andy
will be in prison until August, his fellow activist Connor Cash could serve
until 2052 due in part to the state's new terrorism law. Both are victims
of intense police harassment. Andy Stepanian watches dandelions poke
through cracks in the pavement outside the small slit of a window in the
jail cell where he will spend the next seven months.
In jail since early March, the 23-year-old Long Island animal rights
activist was sentenced to additional prison time March 13. He is expected
to be imprisoned until at least August for a variety of non-violent protest
offenses.
Meanwhile fellow Long Island activist, Connor Cash, faces questionable
charges that could bring him 50 years in prison.
