PRIME Minister John Howard should be willing to send his own sons, Tim and
Richard, to war before committing Australian troops to a US-led invasion of
Iraq, says US Ambassador Tom Schieffer.
Any world leader should be ready to make that sacrifice, he said.
"If you're not prepared to send your own son to war, don't send someone
else's -- that's the test," he said after a Rotary lunch address yesterday.
"I assure you that's the test George Bush is going to go through before he
would send anyone else's child in the hardest way."

25 years for terror
By JOHN FERGUSON, state politics reporter

SABOTEURS will be sent to jail for up to 25 years in Victoria under new
anti-terrorism measures in the wake of the September 11 attacks.
Premier Steve Bracks will today reveal an unprecedented assault on
terrorism that will also send would-be terrorists to jail for up to 15 years.
The Government is planning to introduce new legislation in State Parliament
this week under the Crimes (Property Damage and Computer Offences) Bill.
The laws are likely to receive bipartisan support and will give specific
powers to prevent cyber crime, such as hacking into the police computer
network.
