A 23 year old ex-Army infantryman in New Hampshire, Andrew McCrae, has
publically claimed responsibility for the fatal November 19th shooting
of 31 year old police officer David Mobilio in Red Bluff, California.
Mobilio was putting gas in his vehicle at the time, and was shot three
times, once in the back of the head. McCrae was arrested yesterday
after confessing to the crime.

McCrae, if he actually committed the crime, has apparently convinced
himself that these are desperate times, and desperate measures are
called for. He claims to have committed the murder and subsequently
confessed to call attention to himself to spread his observations on the
state of the world. I would argue that his observations should be read.

He confessed in the first sentence of a posting on SF's IndyMedia site.
The remainder of the posting is a remarkably lucid, simple, and poised
critique of multinational corporate exploitation, U.S.
government/military collusion, and American greed. His call to arms at
the end of the essay seems forced.

McCrae also posted a "Declaration of a Renewed American Independence",
described as "The motives behind the killing of a Police Officer in Red
Bluff, California. A declaration of American rights against law
enforcement." Again, worth reading for its statements and perspectives.

The Concord Monitor has the latest news on this event, including a
posting from the journalist who was first able to speak with McCrae.

The phone message McCrae left at the Concord Monitor:
"Hi, my name is Andy McCrae, and I killed a police officer in Red Bluff,
California, to stop the police-state tactics that are used throughout
America. And I am at the Holiday Inn in Concord, New Hampshire, right
now. And the FBI are right outside my door, and I just thought the
Concord Monitor might be interested to be there. . . So, all right, I
just thought you guys would be interested in that. So, that's it. I'm
at the Holiday Inn, room 420. And I'm about to come out to the FBI. So
that's it."

It will be VERY interesting to see the spin that hits this fan.
